Lowther Castle’s Head Gardener to star at literary festival

Martin Ogle, Head Gardener for Lowther Castle and Gardens Martin Ogle, head gardener at Lowther Castle, is to take part in the 2018 Words by the Water literary festival at the Theatre by the Lake. He will joining author Ambra Edwards who featured Martin and his work in her book, ‘Head Gardeners’ which came out earlier this year. Besides exploring the role of head gardener generally, the pair will discuss the exciting gardening projects currently under way at Lowther Castle & Gardens, including the planting of a spectacular new rose garden designed by master garden designer Dan Pearson. To write ‘Head Gardeners’, Ambra Edwards interviewed fourteen candidates in very different settings. The resulting work explores in breathtaking detail the visions and achievements of these gardeners and their roles. The book was recently named ‘Inspirational Book of the Year’ at the Garden Media Guild Awards, celebrating the best of horticultural communications and recognising the talent, skill and inspirations of garden media professionals.
